In this video tutorial, we will work through the complete edit of the photograph “The Dream Aurora”.

One of the main attractions of visiting Norway’s Lofoten Islands is seeing the northern lights. However, seeing them is not always easy, let alone photographing them in your ideal location.

In this course, we will combine two panoramas taken in different places and at different times. The first, used for the sky, was taken on Uttakleiv Beach during a beautiful night of northern lights. The second was taken at a spectacular location surrounded by mountains.

We will blend the photographs as seamlessly and realistically as possible, paying particular attention to details such as recreating the sky’s reflection in the foreground water.

What you will learn

Stitching the panoramas and developing the DNG files.
Blending the two panoramas while correcting colour and brightness.
Cleaning up and reshaping the image.
Editing the ground and sky separately from start to finish.

Managing, balancing and enhancing colour to create a distinctive atmosphere.
Enhancing detail in selected areas.
Applying the Orton effect.
Final adjustments and export for the web.
