In this video tutorial, we will work through the complete edit of the photograph “Firewave”.

This photograph was taken at the rock formation known as Fire Wave in Nevada’s Valley of Fire State Park, USA. We will explore how to direct light realistically across the landscape and make the most of an image with an unremarkable sky through editing.

What you will learn

Developing a RAW file in Photoshop’s Camera Raw.
Reshaping and enlarging selected areas to improve the composition and foreground.
Adding light and directing it realistically across the landscape.

Using dodge and burn to create selective contrast and integrate the light more naturally.
Managing, balancing and enhancing colour to create distinctive atmospheres.
Enhancing detail across the image and in selected areas.
Applying the Orton effect.
Final adjustments and export for the web.
