Behind the shot: Two Worlds

In 2017 I travelled to Italy with my good friends Enrique Gil and Iván Ferrero. After spending a few days together in the Dolomites, I travelled alone for two days to visit the coastal villages of Cinque Terre National Park, in the La Spezia area of Italy.

This park is a wonderful example of how people can build villages in harmony with nature. Its coastline is full of cliffs, on which the five villages that make up the national park were built: Riomaggiore, Manarola, Corniglia, Vernazza and Monterosso.

I took today’s photograph in the village of Vernazza, where I walked to the end of the harbour to photograph the village from the rocks directly opposite. 

The sea was a little rough that day, which was ideal for capturing silky waves flowing between the rocks and adding a strong sense of movement to the photograph.

Just before blue hour, with the last rays of sunset coming from the right, I took this photograph among many others. It clearly shows the silky moving water and the village lights, which had just come on. 

Without doubt, one of the most beautiful scenes of the trip.
