PLANNING<\/b><\/p>\n

One of the most spectacular places not only in the Italian Dolomites, but in all of Europe, is the incredible Lake Sorapis.<\/p>\n

This mountain lake lies at an altitude of 1,900 metres, very close to Cortina d\u2019Ampezzo.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Its most distinctive feature is the unreal colour of the water: a turquoise blue so intense that, until I first saw it in person, I had not thought it possible.<\/p>\n

The best time to visit is summer, in June, July and August. From September onwards the lake begins to empty and may dry up during the autumn months.<\/p>\n

In fact, my second visit was in October and we found the lake completely dry. It was a great disappointment after the effort involved in getting there.<\/p>\n

How do you reach the lake?<\/strong><\/p>\n

The walk to the lake is approximately 10 km there and back, taking around two and a half hours on the outward leg and two hours on the return.<\/p>\n

To start the walk, go to Passo Tre Croci and park at the point shown on the map below, which marks the exact start of the trail.\u00a0<\/p>\n
